ummmmmm ok not to be mean but WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? yes, it's normal, it is more common for the item to break. Unless this was a duped ambrace that was a helluv a waste of cash man...
from wiki on salvaging:
Should the player choose to salvage an upgrade, the player will always receive the chosen upgrade. However, there is a chance that the item being salvaged will not be destroyed after salvaging. There is a base 50% chance that the item will remain intact, with an additional 3% chance for each rank in the Treasure Hunter and Wisdom titles. At max level Treasure Hunter and Wisdom, there is a 92% chance of the item remaining intact. Some items, such as Hero armor, cannot actually be destroyed by salvaging.
and no, theres nothing to be done sorry

Well.. Most items have the chance to break when salvaging don't they? If tormented items were un-breakable to salvages then I never knew that - so with that said Anet updated them? Dunno.. someone could fill me in.

Sounds completely normal to me, why wouldn't it be normal?
What you can do is...in the future do not ever use salvage kits on things you don't want to break.

Maybe people should read the warning that comes up when you try to salvage.
But I suppose this is just a bad troll thread.

*shakes head*
Why in Gods name would you even try to salvage a stinking mod off a 100k + ecto shield for anyways? Any mods you could have possibly wanted are no more than 20k at the most. Just OVERWRITE the old ones, dont salvage. If you can afford the shield, you sure as hell should be able to afford the mods. And there is nothing you can do about it. Once its salvaged and breaks its gone forever. Tormented items break the same as any other. And I highly doubt ANET will change that as 99.9% of the community wouldnt try to salvage mods off such an expensive item.

the tormented weapon CAN be destroyed through salvage Mods off it, the describe of tormented weapon is: 1:Can not be sold to merchant, 2:Can not salvage for matirals. However, when u salvage a mod off it, it will give u a warning that u may destroy the item. cuz in this case, u are not salvaging for martirals, so it is not include in the 2nd condition, so yes, u may destory a Tormented weapon through salvaging mods from it

Hammer_Drawn's post is for the win
Why in the world should you risk breaking a 100k+75e (I think... I forget now) weapon to get a 15k mod off of it?

guys, Tormented weapons were originally advertised as you can mod them as you please, salvage them as you please, and they will never break.
No I don't have the link but I recall this 100% as true. I'm sure it can be found somewhere, perhaps someone has that handy

I think he's laughing his butt off right now at people who would believe anyone would be that stupid... that's what I think.
